ROEMHELD at Fakuma: efficient innovations for the complete mould change in injection moulding
Trade fair premiere: Tool transport up to 40 t, new clamping elements

Short non-productive times continue to be an important factor for productivity in injection moulding. This includes the mould change at the machines: The faster it is carried out, the faster the plant can continue production. At Fakuma 2023 in Friedrichshafen ROEMHELD will therefore present a whole range of innovations for the efficient change process from one source.

These include magnetic clamping systems from Rivi Magnetics for an operating temperature of up to 240°C, new tool change carts up to 6 t, a rail-guided platform cart for tools weighing up to 40 t, new robust arc clamps for straight clamping edges with locking and hollow piston cylinders that compensate for different clamping heights. The set-up time optimiser will be showing the innovations, a comprehensive overview of its range and exemplary complete offers for tool changing from 17 to 21 October in Hall A1 at Stand 1223.

A wide range of solutions

The solutions offered by ROEMHELD are as manifold as the requirements of the customers for tool handling. For one company the focus is on the professional and safe storage of the moulds with racking systems. The next company wants to implement improvements in transport or in feeding to the injection moulding machine. For the third user, the focus is on positioning as well as fast and reliable clamping in the machine. Depending on the customer requirements and the desired degree of automation ROEMHELD offers different clamping elements for this: magnetic, hydraulic, electromechanical or purely mechanical.

Fast and safe: magnetic clamping plates from Rivi Magnetics

Magnetic clamping plates are a quick clamping technology that can be used flexibly and universally. They are custom-made according to the respective requirements, a standardisation of the tools regarding size or geometry is not necessary. In this way, almost all ferromagnetic tools can be clamped over their entire surface and with a high degree of bending stiffness, and then released again later. Tools and moulds are clamped over the entire surface and with a high bending stiffness within a few seconds and later released again. A current pulse activates or deactivates the permanent magnets, which work independently of the current.

Magnetic clamping plates are available in different versions depending on the working temperature. They meet the current standards for injection moulding machines and rubber presses as well as the specifications of performance levels "d" and "e". They are virtually maintenance-free and can be retrofitted to existing machines within a few hours.

Transport tools weighing up to 40 t

ROEMHELD complements its range of tool changing trolleys by the models RWA 2500 and RWA 6000. They offer a payload of up to 2.5 respectively 6 t and have a tool changing table with integrated hydraulic ball bars and an additional pull-push system which facilitates the automatic insertion of the tools.

During transport, the hydraulic balls in the table of the interchangeable trolley are lowered and the tool is secured against slipping. A safety circuit ensures that the models only move when the ball bars are lowered.

For heavier tool weights, a platform trolley with a load capacity of up to 10 t has been added to the range. Thanks to its low lifting height, it can be moved freely, comes with a small height adjustment, offers a pull-push chain and is available with different platform sizes.

Trade fair premiere of rail-guided platform truck up to 40 t

Loads of up to 40 t can be transported with the help of a rail-guided platform trolley, which is celebrating its premiere at Fakuma. ROEMEHLD developed the innovation together with a transport and handling expert from Lower Saxony. It is available on the market in three versions with payloads for 15 t, 25 t and 40 t, the track widths range from 600 to 3,800 mm, the carriage widths are available from 800 to 4,000 mm.

Moving on round rails results in extremely low rolling resistance, so that payloads of up to 5 t can be moved manually. Moulds can be moved effortlessly on the carriage table via integrated roller bars using push chains, bridging tables and pre-equipment stations facilitate insertion into the machine.

Innovations for tool clamping

At Fakuma, pull-push chain systems can also be seen at the ROEMHELD stand. They are directly attached to the machine and move mould weights up to 40 t.

Sheet clamps ensure safe clamping of the tools

For safe clamping of the moulds in the injection moulding machine ROEMHELD presents new robust arc clamps for straight clamping edges with locking. As their clamping bolts move arc-shaped, there is no mechanical frictional connection, but an increased safety due to an integrated mechanical locking. Also new are hollow piston cylinders with which different clamping rim heights of up to 30 mm can be compensated.

The company also presents a new tool app that allows customers to select all products in a configurator. In addition to animations and technical data sheets, a gallery of application photos makes it easier to understand the information.
