At AMB 2026, the ROEMHELD Group’s focus is on configurability, precision, flexibility and intelligence. The clamping technology specialist is presenting a range of innovations for the precise clamping and movement of workpieces and loads. In addition to traditional machinists, the target groups include, in particular, the mechanical and plant engineering sectors, the aerospace industry and providers of automation solutions.

Römheld GmbH Friedrichshütte and STARK Spannsysteme GmbH are jointly presenting numerous new products – including self-configurable clamping and support elements available at particularly short notice, as well as clamping systems with sensors for ultrasonic position control.

Also new are a solution for the automated handling and securing of heavy loads, as well as zero-point and workpiece clamping systems for distortion-free clamping of large and complex structural and free-form components.

The STARK.spheric now features a new height compensation function to complement the existing pendulum and length compensation systems; the HILMA.ASH long-stroke machine vise, equipped with sensors and IO-Link communication, is also being showcased for the first time.

From large-component machining through to machine and plant engineering and automated, unmanned production: with its selection of exhibits, the ROEMHELD Group demonstrates that it supplies the right clamping solution from a single source for almost any machining process. ROEMHELD will be exhibiting at the AMB from 15 to 19 September 2026 in Stuttgart, in Hall 1 at Stand B30.

Configure clamping devises yourself: greater variety and rapid availability

Römheld GmbH Friedrichshütte is extending the benefits of virtually unlimited product variety combined with short lead times to an ever-increasing number of product groups. Users can put together their own customised clamping element using an order number code comprising defined designs, sizes, swing angles, clamping strokes and sensing options. As all individual parts are in stock, Römheld assembles the desired version immediately upon receipt of the order at its Laubach site and delivers within a week as standard. Three key configurable exhibits will be on display at the AMB.

Swing clamps without swing stroke with an expanded flange range

For the first time, the company is presenting its hydraulic swing clamp without swing stroke, featuring an extended flange range. Its patented kinematics allow direct clamping in small, narrow recesses, grooves, cut-outs and enclosed pockets – even in confined spaces – with maximum clamping force and high repeatability.

The clamping jaw swings in a single plane without any axial swing movement. The clamping force is 6.5 kN at a maximum operating pressure of 220 bar and a horizontal stroke of 8 mm; vertical clamping is possible at any position within the 4 mm clamping stroke.

A reinforced swing mechanism reliably maintains the angular position even after minor collisions. The component is available in three sizes, now with a flange at the top or bottom, with a tapered, pendulum eye or fork head mounting, and in right-hand, left-hand or non-swing versions – all of which are fully configurable.

New work supports

With a new range of screw-in work supports designed for operating pressures of up to 350 bar, you can also customise the features and functions yourself. The components prevent vibrations and the deflection of workpieces and can be installed in any position. They are available in three sizes with load capacities of up to 13 kN, in single- or double-acting hydraulic versions, with a metal scraper edge and optional pneumatic contact monitoring.

Robust swing clamp with ultrasonic position monitoring

As a third configurable element, ROEMHELD is showcasing a robust swing clamp for pressures of up to 350 bar. Its standout feature is a new sensor located in the oil chamber that measures the stroke using ultrasound. The piston position derived from this provides reliable information as to whether the element is clamped correctly, not clamped at all, or clamped incorrectly.

The sensor calibrates itself automatically and is maintenance-free – more accurate and reliable than other measurement methods, making it ideal for unmanned production.

The compact unit is available in four designs with different swing directions, angles and flange configurations, as well as in a plug-in version, with various mounting, connection and position monitoring options. A metallically protected wiper is supplied as standard.

Moving heavy loads easily and securing them safely

ROEMHELD is also presenting an easily adaptable solution for moving and securing large, complex and heavy fixtures in confined spaces. Ball roller guides and lowerable clamping elements with lever kinematics are integrated into a machine table. A linear actuator pushes the fixture, mounted on a plate, along the ball roller guides and over the lowered clamping elements until it reaches a fixed stop. Once this is reached, the clamping elements rise and secure the tool or fixture.

For the aerospace and other industries: flexible clamping system for varying free-form surfaces

The FSS clamping system (“Flexible Clamping and Supporting Systems”), including its control unit, enables varying free-form workpieces to be clamped quickly and reliably without any forces being applied to the component. Lightweight components made of plastic and aluminium, up to 15 metres in length, can thus be clamped precisely and without the need for a negative mould – not only in aerospace but also, in particular, for the automotive, boat and rail vehicle industries.

The modular system is suitable for use up to IP67 (even when using cooling water), with a positioning accuracy of up to ± 0.05 mm and a repeatability of up to ± 0.02 mm. In fully automatic operation, it carries out all preparations unmanned – from loading the base plate through positioning to clamping and clamping. The actuators, with a piston rod that can extend up to 1,000 mm and be locked in place, adapt to the workpiece geometry; vacuum cups on their heads secure the component.

STARK.spheric: distortion-free clamping now with height compensation

STARK Spannsysteme GmbH is bringing two major innovations to the AMB. The first is the STARK.spheric, a zero-point clamping system that now, for the first time, also offers height compensation.

The system is designed for distortion-free clamping of large and complex workpieces. In the machining of large components, it is regarded as a game-changer because it compensates for internal stresses during material removal in a controlled manner.

The innovative compensation mechanism is now available not only for the X and Y axes: in addition to pendulum compensation of ± 5° and length compensation of ± 1.5 mm, height compensation of ± 2.5 mm is now integrated into the Z-axis.

This makes the system suitable even for large workpieces with a very large number of clamping points. The target audience includes all companies where distortion-free clamping enables higher precision and process reliability – the aerospace industry, automated machining companies, system integrators, automation specialists and machine builders.

Its strengths are particularly evident, for example, in aerospace structural components with high machining volumes, as well as in large welded parts, where clamping for post-processing would otherwise be a complex process.

HILMA.ASH long-stroke clamp with sensors and IO-Link

The second innovation is the HILMA.ASH hydraulic long-stroke vise for jaw widths of 100 and 125 mm, now featuring sensor technology and IO-Link communication. It offers a wide range of applications – particularly for automated machining.

The vise’s integrated sensors, with a clamping stroke of up to 110 mm, monitor the opening position, clamping force and contact status, enabling continuous condition monitoring. An optional position measurement system enables fully automatic set-up and eliminates operator errors.

Via the standardised IO-Link interface, process and status data can be effortlessly integrated into existing control and monitoring systems – ideal for unmanned machining. The ASH is used, for example, when components of varying sizes need to be clamped on a regular basis.

It offers excellent accessibility, high rigidity and a wide selection of jaws for any clamping task. Also available is a robot-compatible quick-change system that can be locked in place and allows jaw changes without any manual intervention. This enables a larger clamping range to be covered or the jaw to be rotated through 180 degrees to switch from external to internal clamping.

Integrated air outlets facilitate reliable automated operation by cleaning the workpiece support surface and the guideways, and by monitoring the positioning of the component.
